Easier China Visa for Indian Tourists: What's Changed?
China is actively encouraging more Indian tourists to explore its rich culture and diverse landscapes. As a testament to this welcoming approach, the Chinese Embassy in India has issued over 85,000 visas to "Indian friends" between January 1 and April 9, 2025.
Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, extended a warm invitation on social media, emphasizing that China is "open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly." This initiative is supported by tangible changes in the visa application process aimed at making it easier and more affordable for Indian travelers.
Here are some of the key relaxations in place for Indian tourists traveling to China:
No Appointment Needed: Indian applicants can now directly visit visa application centers on weekdays without the prior requirement of booking an online appointment. This offers greater flexibility and convenience.
Biometric Exemption for Short Stays: Those traveling to China for short durations are no longer required to submit biometric data. This significant change helps to expedite the processing time.
Reduced Visa Fees: The cost of obtaining a Chinese visa has been reduced, making it more budget-friendly for Indian tourists. For example, a single-entry visa is now priced at โน2,900, and a double-entry visa costs โน4,400. Multiple-entry visas for six months and twelve months or longer are available for โน5,900 and โน8,800, respectively. Group visas are also offered at a reduced rate.
Faster Processing Times: Visa applications are being processed more swiftly, ensuring quicker issuance for both leisure and business travelers.
These measures reflect China's commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties with India and boosting tourism. By simplifying the visa process and reducing costs, China aims to attract more Indian visitors to experience its unique culture, historical sites, and vibrant festivals.
