Armenia surprised us more than any country on this list. Ancient monasteries perched on cliff edges, Soviet-era charm in Yerevan's cafés, and hospitality so intense you'll be invited to a family lunch within days. It's compact, cheap, and blissfully uncrowded.

Yerevan
Pink-stone capital with a serious café culture. Base yourself here — most sights are day trips.
Geghard Monastery & Garni Temple
A UNESCO monastery carved into rock, paired with Armenia's only standing pagan temple. One easy half-day trip.
Lake Sevan
The 'Armenian sea' at 1,900m. Go for the Sevanavank monastery views and grilled fish on the shore.
Tatev Monastery
Reached by the world's longest reversible cable car. The ride alone justifies the trip south.
Budget Reality
Armenia is one of the cheapest countries we've visited. Comfortable guesthouses run ₹1,200–2,000/night, a filling meal ₹250–400, and marshrutka (minibus) rides between cities cost a few hundred rupees.
Visa for Indian Passport Holders
e-Visa or Visa on Arrival for Indian passport holders
- e-Visa: apply online through Armenia's official e-visa portal; typically processed in a few working days.
- Visa on arrival is also available at Zvartnots Airport (Yerevan) for Indians.
- Carry hotel booking confirmation and return ticket — we were asked for neither, but rules say have them.
- 21-day and 120-day visa options exist; the short one covers most trips.
